This is the perfect journal for training and running. In 2012 I used the older version to track all of my training up to the Chicago Marathon and it was great for logging total miles/weekly miles and all my races. It is a 52 week journal and you fill in the dates. You open the book, lay it flat and each week spans the two pages. There are nice motivational quotes and tips.

I do use an online training tracker with my Garmin, but this allows you to have an accessable tool for planning your weeks and miles . It was particularly useful for me with my desk calendar tracking the 16 week Hal Hogden preparation for a marathon. Recording aches and pains those weeks with over 50 miles is nice to review so you can get a handle on what works best with your body recovery planning after big races.

Overall, it is a handy tool and it is pretty cool seeing the miles add up when you get to December.

I cannot wait until 1 year has gone by so I can look at what I''ve chronicled. This is an accomplishment for me as I am into weight training but always afraid of any distance running because of arthritis in both knees adding patella femoral syndrome in right knee. Thing is, most people with arthritis don''t know that weight bearing exercises actually "strengthen" your knees/joints. If I go too many days without exercise, especially running, that''s when I feel the cracking and mild stiffness. But the working out and running just oils my joints up... "LITERALLY"

There is something about the old school logs with pages that appear to have been cranked out on a typewriter; it is a link to a time when running shoes were built for wrestling mats, five bucks was the "outrageous" race day entry fee and a school''s indoor track was located in the basement boiler room and looked like a failed art project to paint a perfect circle on the cement floor.

This version of the magazine''s training journal has an old school link through a brief introduction by 1968 Boston Marathon winner, journalist, author and editor Amby Burfoot, but the pages are splashed with vibrant colors, with a full - undated - year available for musings. There are other sections for specific jottings on racing, shoe purchases and those training runs/races that should be bottled for future use. The tips on a variety topics are informative and can be sources of inspiration when climbing out of those stagnant ruts.

Runner''s World has a winner with the layout....for the long run.

I read RW both online and in a paper magazine format and I always enjoy it and having this journal/ log is a little like reading the RW every day - there are lots of useful tips and advice on every page. There are also pages devoted to our own race info, info on shoes we''re going to use throughout a given year and there''s also some space for ''rave runs'' and that''s something every runner does experience now and then.
A huge upside for me is also how colorful this log is - it''s quite energizing to flip through it, jot down some information about running and get some daily inspiration from the pictures of fit people and great runners'' quotes.
I would love more space for every day entries but it''s just a minor downside. I''ve just ordered two more copies of the journal, so I''m def. going to use it in the near future.

I spent a lot of time looking at the various runner’s diaries/running log books available here on Amazon, not one of these fulfilled all of my criteria. I’m just getting back into a run/walk training regime after various life issues getting in the way along with foot issues. I wanted to accurately log my pace, calories burned, distance, weather, how I felt, what shoes I wore so as to keep a record of distance on the soles for wear, my weight, etc, I also wanted a spiral bound book. I dithered about and chose this book because I liked the idea of the tips and snippets on each page as motivation activators. However, this has turned out to be rather a disastrous diary for running, there is far too small, and I really mean far too small, a space for writing any sort of legible notes. The left-hand page is incredibility difficult to write on as this is a thick book, and the spiral gets in the way of my right hand trying to lean on the book to write, I had to jack up the left pages with another book underneath to get anything written, I dare say as one proceeds through the book and the pages level up on the left and right sides things will become easier, but at present it makes using the book most unpleasant, a chore and not encouraging at all. So, 1 week in I am abandoning this as a runners log and have instead just purchased a sturdy A4 spiral bound diary for 2019. This was not a cheap diary and I feel rather let down by it. Maybe I will cut out the tips and running snippets and paste them into my new diary instead. When I look at my first week’s notes in this diary it is just a horrid mess, and truly upsets my OCD in writing looking neat and tidy & being laid out in a logical order, and it is certainly not easy to refer to easily. I’m actually quite embarrassed to put my photo of the mess up here for you to see. I won’t be buying this ever again. Oh, and the spiral got a bit crushed during delivery and the pages therefore, don''t turn over easily.
